This whole scene was about Richard fixing his coat. And then it coming undone. Right?
Yes. In a manner of speaking. Whenever I see this scene I’m fascinated by how much costume design can facilitate great acting. He uses it really well too, of course. The way his “gay apparel” drags him down, twists, and works against him; for a brief moment he’s in control of it again, uses it to present himself the way he intends do. It’s really a very beautiful way of showing exactly what he’s going through in this scene.
